MDA National freezes premiums to support Members
Dear Member,
In the face of the evolving impact of COVID-19, MDA National’s immediate priority is to provide the timely, practical and clear medico-legal support and advice our Members require to KEEP ON practising with confidence.
With concerns rising over the financial impact of this crisis, MDA National has considered ways we can support you, during these extraordinary times. Despite upward pressure on insurance premiums, as a result of increasing medical indemnity claim costs, we are introducing the following support package for Members:
- A freeze on premium increases* for the coming financial year
- Please note: You are currently receiving a step-up premium discount as part of our Starting in Private Practice support program. You will only see a premium increase in the coming year in accordance with the standard discounting progression of this program. There will be no increase applied to the base rate of your premium*. - Eligibility for a premium reduction if the nature of your practice and/or the level of activity of your practice has materially changed.
- For the 2020/21 financial year, you will have the opportunity to update us on any changes, in our upcoming pre-renewal communications.
- For the current financial year, you can advise us of changes post June 30 and we will process any premium refunds due to you at that time
- A new monthly direct debit payment option in addition to the existing quarterly direct debit option to help manage your cash flow
- Expanded assistance for Members experiencing financial hardship. Please contact our Member Services team on 1800 011 255 to discuss options available to you

* A very small number of Members will receive a premium increase due to their higher claims experience and risk profile and we will be communicating with them separately by 30 April.
